Position Summary
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead all financial functions of our growing construction company. The CFO will play a critical role in shaping the company’s financial strategy, ensuring strong fiscal management, and supporting operational excellence across multiple projects. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in the construction industry, including job costing, contract management, and financial oversight of large-scale projects.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the CEO and executive team to develop and execute long-term financial strategies
- Provide financial insights to support business growth, expansion, and investment decisions
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and financial reporting
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
- Present financial results and key metrics to executive leadership and stakeholders
Construction-Specific Oversight
- Manage and optimize job costing systems to ensure accurate project profitability tracking
- Oversee work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, revenue recognition, and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Monitor project budgets, change orders, and cost controls across multiple jobs
- Partner with operations and project managers to improve margin performance and forecasting accuracy
Cash Flow & Risk Management
- Oversee cash flow planning, forecasting, and working capital management
- Manage banking relationships, credit facilities, and bonding capacity
- Ensure compliance with lender and surety requirements
- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks
Systems & Process Improvement
- Evaluate and enhance financial systems, including ERP and construction accounting software
- Implement process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
- Leverage data analytics to drive decision-making
Leadership & Team Development
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance and accounting team
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA or CPA strongly preferred)
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, with significant time in the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including WIP reporting and job costing
- Experience with construction ERP systems (e.g., Procore, Viewpoint, Sage 300/100 Contractor, or similar)
- Proven track record of strategic financial leadership and operational partnership
- Strong understanding of cash flow management, financing, and bonding requirements
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting multi-entity or multi-project environments
- Familiarity with contract types (lump sum, cost-plus, GMP, etc.)
- Experience with mergers & acquisitions or company scaling initiatives
- Advanced financial modeling and data analysis capabilities
