About the Opportunity
A well-established nonprofit organization in the Hartford area is seeking a Bookkeeper to join their finance team. This position reports directly to the Controller and plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting day-to-day accounting operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong hands-on bookkeeping experience who enjoys working in a mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process vendor invoices, purchase orders, and daily financial transactions
- Record cash receipts, checks, and deposits accurately
- Maintain and reconcile financial records and reports
- Assist with journal entries and basic account reconciliations
- Generate financial reports (balance sheets, transaction summaries, etc.)
- Track vendor activity and maintain W-9 documentation
- Support year-end processes, including 1099 preparation
- Manage petty cash and assist with administrative finance tasks
- Communicate with internal teams and external vendors as needed
Qualifications
- 3+ years of bookkeeping or general accounting experience (required)
- Non-profit experience (required)
- Experience with accounting software (Financial Edge NXT or similar preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Comfortable handling transactional accounting responsibilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred (Not Required)
- Coursework or certifications in bookkeeping/accounting
- Exposure to billing functions
