Job Opportunity: Corporate Controller (Finance and Accounting Leader)
Location: Burlington, MA (Hybrid – 4 days in-office / 1 day remote)
Company Type: Private Equity-Backed Consumer Goods (CPG) & Manufacturing
Compensation: $210-245K + bonus

The Opportunity
We are seeking a high-impact Corporate Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting functions for a premier, private equity-backed consumer products organization. This critical leadership role serves as a strategic partner to the CFO and PE sponsors, ensuring GAAP-compliant reporting, robust internal controls, and disciplined working capital management. You will be instrumental in driving value creation, supporting M&A integrations, and preparing the organization for a future liquidity event.
Core Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Operational Excellence

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with a focus on speed, accuracy, and transparency.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and reporting packages for executive leadership and PE board members.
  • Ensure strict adherence to GAAP, specifically regarding revenue recognition, inventory valuation, and accruals.
  • Support EBITDA quality initiatives and manage non-recurring add-back items.

Inventory & Manufacturing Accounting

  • Oversee cost accounting for manufacturing and co-manufacturing operations, including standard costing and variance analysis.
  • Manage inventory valuation, reserves, and physical counts across multiple warehouses and 3PL partners.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to optimize gross margin accuracy and SKU profitability.

Controls, Compliance & Audit

  • Design and scale internal controls suitable for a high-growth, leveraged environment.
  • Act as the primary liaison for external auditors, lenders, and tax advisors.
  • Manage debt covenant compliance and lead audit readiness for diligence or lender examinations.

Systems & Scalability

  • Optimize ERP performance and accounting workflows to support increased volume.
  • Drive automation to enhance scalability without proportional headcount growth.
  • Establish formal accounting policies to support exit readiness (IPO/Sale).

Cash Management & Leadership

  • Support cash flow forecasting and liquidity management.
  • Partner with FP&A on working capital initiatives, including AR/AP and inventory turns.
  • Mentor and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Candidate Profile
Technical Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 12 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant leadership roles.
  • Background: Public accounting foundation (Big 4 or National firm) is highly preferred.
  • Industry: Must have experience in Consumer Products (CPG), Manufacturing, or Distribution.
  • PE Exposure: Proven experience in private equity-backed, high-growth, or highly leveraged organizations.

Key Competencies:

  • Expertise in GAAP, cost accounting, and inventory management.
  • Experience supporting M&A integrations and exit preparation (Sale or IPO).
  • Proficiency in lender reporting and covenant compliance.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence executives and board members.
  • A “bias for action” mindset, comfortable operating within lean teams and aggressive timelines.
