Bankruptcy Paralegal – New York AmLaw 200 Firm
A well-regarded AmLaw 200 firm is looking to add a Bankruptcy Paralegal to its New York office in support of a growing, creditor-focused bankruptcy and restructuring practice with a national footprint.
This person will work directly with attorneys across a range of bankruptcy and restructuring matters — from court filings and claims work to hearing support and client coordination. It’s a high-visibility role in an active practice that handles complex Chapter 11 matters, official committee representations, and individual creditor work.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Prepare, file, and serve pleadings in New Jersey, New York, and federal bankruptcy courts nationwide; track and manage related deadlines
- Interpret and apply local court rules and jurisdiction-specific procedures; support attorneys with case management requirements across venues
- Own case calendars, task lists, and critical date trackers; maintain organized files for complex Chapter 11 matters, including official committee and individual creditor representations
- Draft and file proofs of claim; monitor claim activity and assist with claims reconciliation
- Prepare court filings including retention applications, fee applications, and related pleadings
- Maintain accurate time records; review billing entries and assist in preparing fee applications and supporting documentation
- Monitor court dockets; summarize and distribute relevant filings and updates to the team
- Coordinate hearing logistics — attorney appearances, hearing materials, and any related preparation
- Provide on-the-ground support for hearings and trials
- Handle creditor inquiries and assist with ongoing client communications
- Collaborate with attorneys, clients, and outside professionals on case developments and project coordination
Background and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal certificate a plus
- Minimum 6 years of substantive bankruptcy experience in a law firm or legal services setting
- Strong working knowledge of bankruptcy court pleadings, claims reconciliation, and core bankruptcy concepts
- Proficiency with CM/ECF electronic filing, particularly in New Jersey and other federal courts
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Sharp organizational skills and attention to detail — this practice moves fast
- Comfortable managing competing deadlines across multiple matters simultaneously
- High degree of discretion with confidential client and case information
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint
Compensation
New York salary range: $90,000 – $130,000, commensurate with experience, credentials, and qualifications.
