Bankruptcy Paralegal – New York AmLaw 200 Firm

A well-regarded AmLaw 200 firm is looking to add a Bankruptcy Paralegal to its New York office in support of a growing, creditor-focused bankruptcy and restructuring practice with a national footprint.

This person will work directly with attorneys across a range of bankruptcy and restructuring matters — from court filings and claims work to hearing support and client coordination. It’s a high-visibility role in an active practice that handles complex Chapter 11 matters, official committee representations, and individual creditor work.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Prepare, file, and serve pleadings in New Jersey, New York, and federal bankruptcy courts nationwide; track and manage related deadlines
  • Interpret and apply local court rules and jurisdiction-specific procedures; support attorneys with case management requirements across venues
  • Own case calendars, task lists, and critical date trackers; maintain organized files for complex Chapter 11 matters, including official committee and individual creditor representations
  • Draft and file proofs of claim; monitor claim activity and assist with claims reconciliation
  • Prepare court filings including retention applications, fee applications, and related pleadings
  • Maintain accurate time records; review billing entries and assist in preparing fee applications and supporting documentation
  • Monitor court dockets; summarize and distribute relevant filings and updates to the team
  • Coordinate hearing logistics — attorney appearances, hearing materials, and any related preparation
  • Provide on-the-ground support for hearings and trials
  • Handle creditor inquiries and assist with ongoing client communications
  • Collaborate with attorneys, clients, and outside professionals on case developments and project coordination

Background and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal certificate a plus
  • Minimum 6 years of substantive bankruptcy experience in a law firm or legal services setting
  • Strong working knowledge of bankruptcy court pleadings, claims reconciliation, and core bankruptcy concepts
  • Proficiency with CM/ECF electronic filing, particularly in New Jersey and other federal courts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sharp organizational skills and attention to detail — this practice moves fast
  • Comfortable managing competing deadlines across multiple matters simultaneously
  • High degree of discretion with confidential client and case information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint

Compensation

New York salary range: $90,000 – $130,000, commensurate with experience, credentials, and qualifications.
